Nearly all of the herbal dietary supplements tested in a Congressional investigation contained trace amounts of lead and other contaminants, and some supplement sellers made illegal claims that their products can cure cancer and other diseases, investigators found.

All safety regulations should be just that. Require that the ingredients that are supposed to be in the supplement (or herbal extract) are actually in there at the dosages claimed. Require that there be no known harmful contaminants. Beyond that, let the buyer beware. Consumers can educate themselves about the relative risk of some substance for some potential benefit.

Well thus begins the campaign against all supplements and herbal treatments. Big Pharma can't have you fixing yourself on your own or staying healthy. Thou shalt buy their poison.
